This is the Patrol image for our table each day. They rotated them around so we weren't stuck in one spot every day. That made it nice because with that many people in the small room, it felt rather cramped at times. I must say I wasn't too hip on the idea of being a Bobwhite, since I really didn't know much about the critter to begin with, but I am truly grateful for it now. We worked as a patrol from day one, and I have been told it typically takes a couple of days for most patrols to get to where we were almost from the start. I love my patrol members and hope they had as much fun as I did!
This is the topper of the Service Patrol Emblem, a mini Bobwhite "Dingy Flitchit!" I forgot to add that in my Day 1 post, found
here. For our hats, we did not add the google eyes and beak, just the feathers. I still wear my hat as part of my uniform when we go places and get many funny looks and comments. I think it's part of how I learned what Scout Spirit is... Keep it simple, make it fun!
Anyway, Day 2 was a day chock full of games! Games involving candy, ball tossing, rocket launching, and more! The Bobwhites kept getting into trouble for trying to help out other patrols... If you've never been to Wood Badge, I really cannot explain all that there is to this wonderful course because
NOT knowing, is half the fun!
The Bobwhites decided to go ask the Rocket Launchers to launch a bottle without any modifications so we could get an idea of what to expect. This turned out to be a pretty good thing for us.
And because we had Dingy Flitchits, we determined to launch one into space! Haha! We seriously had fun with this. Later in the week, we even rename one of the nearby campsites! That was tons of fun!
This is not our rocket being launched, as I forgot to take a picture of it (I know, terrible!), but you get the idea... I think this was the Fox Patrol's rocket, and if I'm not mistaken, the Beavers won this competition. For points, your patrol had to come up with what they thought the rocket would do: rocket will land 20 feet from launch site, or rocket will fly 50 feet in the air... Points were given based on how close the prediction came.
One of our Official Rocket Judges... with a buffalo hat! I just had to include this picture, because it's too fantastic not to! The unity within Scouters is truly amazing!
Here is what the rocket launch pad looks like, in case you were wondering. I think that our Webelos Scouts would have fun making one of these to launch rockets of their own...
The day ended with one last game, and these were our judges! Haha! (I think the rule book was a copy of
Moby Dick...) It was absolutely humbling to the Staff when they found out that the Patrols banded together to help the Bear Patrol ultimately win the game. We figured out the game, and "changed to conditions of the test" as it were. The Bear Patrol hadn't yet won a single game, and this was how they finally did. I am honored to be part of this amazing Troop 1, of the Bobwhite Patrol. Ralph told us that the staff typically have to tell the Patrols reach the conclusion that we figured out on our own.
